A dentist places bridges or crowns to replace teeth and molars. A new crown or bridge is adjusted so that it has the shape, color and function of your original tooth. Make your teeth complete again with treatment at Studentist dental practice in Amsterdam.
A crown is a cover made of porcelain or metal. It is shaped so that it fits exactly over the broken tooth and is the correct size and shape. We glue the cap securely, so that it does not simply come loose.
A bridge consists of two or more crowns to replace one or more teeth. The normal bridge fits on two pillars and has an artificial tooth in between.
Crowns and bridges are extremely durable. They last at least ten years, provided you maintain good oral hygiene. Brushing, flossing and brushing your teeth has a major influence on the durability of the material. It can happen that a crown or bridge is damaged due to an accident. Make an appointment immediately if your bridge or crown is damaged or missing.
You usually need two visits for the full treatment. The following is done during the visits: preparing the tooth(s), making a dental impression, bite registration, determining the color, placing emergency provision, placing a crown or bridge.
We grind away part of the tooth(s) to create space for the crown or bridge. If necessary, we will give you an anesthetic.
The dentist makes an impression of your teeth or the part where the crown or bridge will be placed. We send the impression to the dental lab. There they make the crown or bridge. This takes two to three weeks.
We analyze the position of the teeth with a bite registration. This is how we determine the correct height and shape of the crown or bridge.
The porcelain should be the same color as your teeth around it. We use a color scheme and use this to determine the appropriate color.
An emergency provision is a temporary crown that we place to protect the prepared tooth.
When we place the real crown or bridge, we remove the emergency provision. We fit the crown or bridge in your mouth and secure it. We ensure that it is properly secured by using a hardening cement.
The price of a crown or bridge depends on the extent of the treatment. The rates for dental treatments are determined every year by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). For a cost indication, see our rates page.
Crowns and bridges are not reimbursed by basic insurance. You must have additional insurance for all dental treatments. Before you have a crown or bridge fitted, you can ask your health insurer how you are insured. This way you avoid high costs.
