The treatment

We do not place implants ourselves, we refer you to the implantologist in your area. The implants are placed there in several phases. In the first phase, they take photos of your teeth and draw up a treatment plan. They then schedule an appointment so that the implantologist can place the implant. After the treatment, there is a recovery period of a few weeks. After this, you return to the practice and they attach the crown, bridge or click-in denture.

Costs of implants Utrecht

The costs of implants vary per treatment. During the consultation in the first phase, you will gain insight into which costs apply to your procedure. Curious about the costs you can expect? Then take a look at the rates overview.

Implants reimbursement

Dental costs are not reimbursed from the basic insurance. To qualify for reimbursement for implants, you need additional dental insurance. Ask your health insurer how you are insured. This way you can avoid unexpectedly high costs.

Frequently asked questions about implants

At Studentist Utrecht, we often get the same questions about implant treatment. That’s why we’ve answered the frequently asked questions for you and listed them in a row.

Why should I have an implant placed?

If you are missing a tooth, we recommend having an implant placed. An implant fills the void in your teeth. A lifelike crown or bridge is placed on the implant. This gives you a full set of teeth again and you can smile with confidence again. By the way, always go to the dentist after you have lost a tooth. If you don’t, you run a greater risk of nasty infections.

Can I have an implant?

Implants are not suitable for everyone. To have an implant placed, you must have sufficient jawbone. In addition, it is possible that the shape of your jaw is unsuitable for an implant. A final condition is that your body must be able to recover after the treatment. Before you undergo the procedure, the dentist will therefore perform a preliminary examination. Schedule an appointment to find out whether you are eligible for an implant.

Who places the implants?

Placing an implant is a specialist treatment. The procedure is performed by specially trained dentists. After the recovery period, a regular dentist can place your bridge or crown. For this, he must have completed an additional course.

Does placing implants hurt?

The implantologist performs the treatment under local anesthesia. This means that you will not feel any pain from the treatment. After placing the implant, your gums may feel sensitive and swell. You may also experience some more pain as the anesthesia wears off. We recommend taking a painkiller at this point.

How should I care for implants?

It is important to take good care of your implant, especially the first few days after placement. This will prevent nasty infections. Rinse your mouth twice a day with mouthwash for the first 3 days after treatment. We recommend not eating or drinking for at least half an hour after rinsing. Do not rinse your mouth with water either. From the 4th day, you can brush the implant as you brush your teeth.

Are implants reimbursed by insurance?

If you have basic health insurance, your insurance will almost never reimburse your treatment. In this case, you are only eligible for reimbursement if you have a serious abnormality in your teeth. Do you have additional dental insurance? Then there is a good chance that your insurer will reimburse the treatment in part or in full. Check with your health insurer to see if you are eligible for reimbursement for implants.

Aftercare by Studentist Utrecht

We advise you to return to Studentist Utrecht regularly after treatment. The dentist can then look at the health of your gums, the jawbone around your implant and the wear of your crown or bridge. It is important to have this checked. This allows the dentist to detect any problems at an early stage and intervene in time.

Caring for your implant

Make sure you keep your teeth clean. Good oral hygiene is especially important in the first few days after the implant has been placed. Rinse your mouth twice a day with mouthwash, at least for the first 3 days after the treatment. Do not eat or drink after rinsing and do not rinse your mouth with water. After the first few days, you can care for your implant by brushing and flossing well.

Types of implants

There are two types of dental implants and the difference is the material the implant is made of. You can get an implant made of titanium or one made of ceramic. The ceramic version is the most common, because the material is the most tissue-friendly.
