At Studentist Amsterdam you can have your teeth whitened in two ways: in practice or by bleaching at home. Easily make an appointment online via the button below. We are happy to explain the options to you. At Studentist Amsterdam you always benefit from:
Over time, teeth discolour due to dyes from food and drinks and when you smoke. With the BlancOne treatment at Studentist Amsterdam you will have radiantly white teeth within an hour. An additional advantage: due to the short treatment time, you do not suffer from side effects and this treatment therefore does not lead to sensitivity and damage to the enamel.
It is also possible to whiten your teeth at home. Make an appointment and visit our practice for an initial consultation. We make a custom whitening mouthguard and provide clear instructions so that you can whiten safely at home. You can collect the dentures and whitening syringes from our practice in Amsterdam within 10 working days. The whitening mouthpiece is made to size once and can then be reused.
The rates for the home whitening treatment can be found in the table below. You can continue to use the whitening mold if you want to whiten your teeth again. This makes it cheaper if you plan to whiten your teeth more often. The rates for the whitening treatment in the practice can be found on our rates page. These rates are determined annually by the NZa.
A whitening treatment is not reimbursed as standard from the basic package. Ask your health insurer how you are insured to avoid high costs.
It may be very tempting to whiten your teeth yourself with a do-it-yourself kit from the internet, food or home garden remedies. However, these methods can be very harmful to your teeth. We have collected the frequently heard methods for you below and explain their possible dangers.
Biting a strawberry and rubbing it on your teeth is said to whiten your teeth. Regardless of whether this is correct or not, this is very unwise to do. Although a strawberry tastes nice and sweet, strawberries contain many fruit acids that can damage the enamel of the teeth.
Chewing crunchy vegetables can help remove plaque and thus prevent tartar. Without damaging the teeth, the vegetables ‘scrape’ against the tooth surface during chewing, which provides a kind of cleaning. Less plaque equals less deposits and therefore fewer discolored teeth.
A frequently heard tip is to make a paste of lemon, sodium carbonate (baking soda) and/or salt. It is then recommended to brush your teeth with this. We can say one thing about this: don’t do it! The acid of the lemon attacks the tooth enamel. In addition, the salt also abrades the teeth, which does not exactly make them stronger. There is a chance that your teeth will become more yellow, because the underlying dentine becomes more visible due to the dissolution of your tooth enamel.
Sun-tanned skin and a coral or light red color on the lips immediately make the teeth appear whiter.
A (sour) apple contains acids that can whiten the teeth. Never use fruit as a toothbrush, just chew it slowly. It is a nice way to ‘clean’ the teeth and freshen the mouth after lunch, for example. But be careful: an apple, just like strawberries, contains fruit acids that damage the enamel of your teeth.
Are you looking for a more effective solution, but do you not want to work with resources of which you do not know the effect? Then have your teeth whitened by the specialists at Studentist.
You must be 18 years or older to use our home whitening treatment. A splint is no problem if you want to whiten your teeth.
Yes, if you follow the dentist’s instructions, teeth whitening is completely safe.
No, in 99% of the treatments you will not feel anything from teeth whitening. Sometimes a slight irritation may occur with the home bleaching method. It is then wise to skip a day. It certainly can’t hurt. It is possible that your teeth are sensitive for up to 24 hours after teeth whitening. Therefore, try to avoid hot and cold drinks in the first hours after the treatment. Are your teeth still sensitive after 24 hours? Please contactStudentist Amsterdam.
You can continue to see results for up to 12 months after the whitening treatment. The result will last longer if you do not smoke and drink few acidic drinks. Try to avoid products that contain a lot of dye.
Composite fillings, veneers and crowns do not bleach. Has there been a color difference after the bleaching treatment? We can then place a new composite filling or veneers in the correct tooth color. We would be happy to give you more information about this in advance.
Teeth whitening is not possible if you have cavities. It is important that your teeth are completely healthy before whitening. We will give you more information about this during the intake interview.
We recommend not consuming the following drinks and foods for the first 24 hours:
What can you eat or drink? Water, milk, bananas, apples (peeled), white bread, oatmeal, yogurt, white cheese, cottage cheese, white rice, jacket potatoes, pasta and white sauce, chicken breast and turkey (skinless) and white fish.
Just like coffee and red wine, smoking causes your teeth to discolour more quickly. If you smoke, it is better to stop before you start whitening your teeth, so that you can keep your teeth white for as long as possible. Smoking creates a colored layer on your tooth enamel, but the tooth itself does not discolor.
You can buy special toothpastes in the supermarket and at the drugstore that promise to whiten your teeth. Unfortunately, the results are very disappointing. Only a very low concentration of bleaching agents may be present in these products. As a result, they have little effect. Home whitening products from the dentist may contain a higher concentration of bleach, so that you can see a lot of difference after teeth whitening. We recommend that you speak to your dentist for advice.
