Root canal treatment in 2 appointments

We usually spread a root canal treatment over 2 appointments. This makes the treatment smooth and pleasant. If multiple appointments are needed, we do our best to schedule them as close together as possible.

Appointment 1

During the first appointment, we will take an X-ray of your teeth. This will give us insight into how the roots are positioned in your jawbone. Then the local anesthesia follows, which makes the treatment painless in most cases. The dentist can now start removing the inflamed tissue. First, we make a small opening in the tooth or molar and then we clean the root canals. Finally, we file and prepare the canals for the new filling.

If we manage to complete the root canal treatment in just 1 appointment, we will place a permanent filling. If a 2nd appointment is necessary, we will place a temporary filling that we will replace during your next visit to our practice.

Appointment 2

We replace the temporary filling with the permanent filling. The filling is made of cement that is completely absorbed by the human body. We then close the root canal: we do this by pressing a pin against the cement. The root canal is now completely closed and can heal.
